Hope is a heavy word and an emotion a lot of people don't have.

My name is Oluwafunke Ajoba, and I am the Founder of Echoes Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to serving humanity through free therapy sessions, skill acquisition, accountability, and mentorship programs. What we hope for is a future where rehabilitation and community centers exist to help individuals align themselves with a purpose beyond their pain. Even as I write this, I write it in hope and faith, but mostly in understanding of what is broken in our society.

Often, I hear people talk about humanity and how it seems to be fading. And sadly, all they say is true. As you go through your day, you find more brokenness around you. Some cannot be seen; others are painfully visible. People from broken homes, individuals who can barely fend for themselves, hearts that are shattered, and lives lived in fear and uncertainty. It goes on and on, getting darker and heavier. But I feel blessed to be surrounded by people who understand this pain and the urgent need to restore joy and hope.

That is why we have planted an event like "Hope and Lights." During this festive season, we aim to reach individuals and families who face uncertainty about what Christmas holds. It’s more than just an event; it’s a call to rekindle the flickering flames of hope and light in communities often forgotten or overlooked. 

This initiative is about more than giving gifts or hosting celebrations. It’s about showing up in the lives of people who are often left to carry their burdens alone. It’s about telling them that they matter, that there is still light in the world, and that they don’t have to face tomorrow in fear. We want every child, every young adult, every mother, and every father to know that despite the darkness they may have experienced, there is hope for a brighter day. 

Through "Hope and Lights," we seek to bring joy, repair, and a sense of belonging to underserved neighborhoods. By offering counseling sessions, skill acquisition opportunities, and healthcare support, we want to empower individuals to reclaim their futures and rewrite their stories. In doing so, we hope to restore a sense of community and remind every person that their lives have value and meaning.

As we prepare for the upcoming "Hope and Lights Community Christmas Party," our mission remains clear: to spread hope, spark joy, and illuminate the path forward for those who have lost their way. This holiday season, we’re not just celebrating Christmas; we’re building bridges, restoring faith, and nurturing a brighter tomorrow.

Hope isn’t just a word or an emotion; it’s a commitment to helping others find their way. And through "Hope and Lights," we aim to keep that commitment alive, one life at a time.
